The Most Festive Holiday Towns

Some people go all out when the holiday season arrives, and some whole towns get into the holiday spirit too. If you’re the type that likes to play holiday light schemes in June, these are the towns that you should move to!

-The Inn at Christmas Place in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee: while you can’t move to this inn, you can stop here on your way to your new destination. This inn isn’t called ‘The Inn at Christmas Place’ for nothing — the whole inn was created and modeled after Christmas, and Christmas is what you’ll get when you stop by this inn. Trees, trimmings, and all.

-Solvang, California: Solvang was settled by Danish immigrants during the 1900s, and today the town is the picture-perfect image of what Christmas in a quaint Danish town should look like. On the day of the Winter Solstice, there are many festivities including a colorful parade.

-Santa Claus, Indiana: Need we say more? This town wasn’t named ‘Santa Claus’ for nothing! Santa Claus calls itself “America’s Christmas Town,” and the whole town gets in on the festivities. If you really love Christmas, call your Boulder movers and pack your bags for Santa Claus, Indiana!

-New York City: If you’ve never seen New York City during the holidays, you have to check it out this year. The whole city is a glow with lights, festivities, parades, and shows — plus, you can get in on the famous NYE action if you happen to be in Times Square on the 31st of December!

-Durango, Colorado: If you have kids, you’ll want to live in Durango, where a real train pulls kids in PJs on the ‘Polar Express’ ride. The town itself just happens to lend itself to the holiday spirit too with plenty of snow, lights, and cozy nooks and crannies that you can just melt into on a cold day.

-Woodstock, VT: The annual holiday parade that happens in Woodstock is enough to get anyone in the Christmas spirit. The parade includes more than 50 horses and carriages, and the town turns back time to create an old-fashioned Christmas scene.

-Disneyworld: You can’t live at Disney World, but you can visit this magical theme park during the holidays to see what Disney does when it comes to holiday cheer. Lights, festivities, fireworks — it’s a Disney Christmas!

-New Orleans: every year, the whole town gets together in New Orleans to sing Christmas Carols in front of the cathedral — it’s hard to think of a more festive scene.

Couch Fabrics That Are the Easiest To Clean

When it comes to kids, pets, and guests, couches just don’t last that long. The average lifespan of a couch is five years, six if you’re lucky. Starting out with a couch fabric that’s easy to clean will go a long way towards keeping that couch looking better longer, and you may even be able to get away with moving your old couch to your new space.

The Best Fabrics to Choose

  • Micro-suede: Because it’s not made of real leather, micro-suede is simple to clean. In most cases, a quick wipe will get rid of any stains, and tough stains can be removed with couch cleaner.
  • Leather: Leather actually isn’t hard to clean, though it can crack and fade, and it’s also a favorite material of cats (so watch out!). You can simply wipe leather in order to clean it, and it’s hard to stain unless you spill red wine or other liquid that might be absorbed by the porous material.
  • Vinyl: Vinyl is really simple to clean (simpler than leather), but it’s not an easy material to find. Plus, some people really just don’t like the look of vinyl, so this one is entirely personal.

The Worst Materials

  • Natural fibers: While a cotton couch looks nice, cotton stains easily (so does wool and other natural materials), so beware of a cotton couch if you want the couch to last for a long time.
  • Silk: Silk couches look really nice, but silk is a picky material. Not only does silk stain, it also rips easily and you’ll be looking at a shredded couch if your cat decides that she likes silk a lot.
  • Leather: Notice how leather is in both categories? That’s because there are different grades of leather, and some are far more porous than others. When you buy a leather couch, ask the salesperson if the leather that you like is more or less susceptible to stains.

Stained Couch Woes

Before you call the Boulder movers, think about whether or not you want to keep that stained couch. In almost every city, there’s some kind of shelter or other non-profit that would gladly take any kind of couch that’s in somewhat good condition. You can also donate the couch to a group home, or give it to someone that’s really in need. If you do not want the couch, you can always throw it out, but be careful to toss it in a designated area (you can’t just leave it on the sidewalk!).

What about that semi-stained couch that you want to move to your new home, but your girlfriend is not into? Well, in that case you can simply store your old couch, and sneak it into your new home when she’s not around — or, ok, you can save it until you have your Man Cave set up. As movers in Greeley, CO, we know that sometimes you just want to put some stuff in storage. That’s why we have storage space in both Fort Collins and Denver, and why we are more than happy to provide you with competitive storage space pricing.
