Real Advice on Downsizing
Time to downsize before you move to or from Colorado? Downsizing is one of the best things you can do before a move. Not only does it help cut down on the amount of Colorado moving boxes and supplies you need, but it also cuts down on your stress levels. Having is less is more when it comes to moving. Below are some tips to keep in mind as you are downsizing before a move:
1) Have you used the item in the past year? If you have not used the item, it may be time to take the item to Goodwill or Salvation Army.
2) Do you use the item when company comes into town? If you do use the item at least once a year and the item would cost over $20-$50 to replace – then keep the item. However, pack the item in a labeled box that can immediately go into storage at your new place. There is no use unpacking something that you will only use a few times a year.
3) Is this item actually comfortable to use or sit on? If the item is not comfortable and causing problems when using the item, throw it out or give it away.
4) Has the item been given to me by someone I care about? If the item is something you will never use and has little value, either keep it or donate it in an area outside of where the person who gave it to you lives. They would not want to see the item at a garage sale or thrift store years down the road. However, if the item is of value or is a heirloom, you may want to keep the item. If it is something that is beautiful and you want to showcase it when that person comes into town comes over, make sure to pack the item in a labeled box that is easily accessible. Take the item out when they are in town and put the item away when they leave.
