This Fresh Place Friday takes us to Monument, Colorado. Monument is located in the Tri-Lake area, situated in between Castle Rock and Colorado Springs. The Tri-Lake area is home to three area lakes including Palmer Lake. The Tri-Lake area is a collection of five quaint communities: Monument, Palmer Lake, Woodmoor, Gleneagle and Black Forest. The area is most notably known for bikers who enjoy taking in the beautiful Colorado Rockies.
The Tri-Lakes area sits on the Palmer Divide, which is the highest point in the Front Range. The area has been inhabited by Native Americans, military, ranchers and farmers. Monument was incorporated in 1879 and was called Henry’s Station after one of the area’s first settlers, Henry Limbach. The town’s name was later changed to Monument and still boasts a historic district reminiscent of the early pioneer days when the town first began.
