Lose Clutter to Save Sanity
From the moment you decide to move, the tension seems to build. You would be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t find the process of relocation emotionally and physically exhausting. But there are a few things you can do right from the start to insure that your move is a much simpler experience.
Get Organized. As soon as you make the choice to move, whether its in 6 months or 6 days, we suggest making a list of what needs to be done. This list can include everything from selecting a moving company to changing utilities over to your new address. By doing this in the beginning, you will be less likely to forget something once the clock has started to run down.
Clear Out. Moving is a great time to clear out the clutter. This includes the things you have in your home or office as well as anything you may already have in storage. Create a 3 category system: to keep, to sell or donate, to recycle or toss. Everything you own should fit into one of these categories. Within the “to keep” section you will of course have things you need to take with you for immediate use and things you need to store. Be as brutal with this section as possible! If you are not using something immediately and you probably won’t need it this year, perhaps it’s time to clear it out. Keep in mind the more you are able to clean out before your move, the less you will have to deal with once you reach your new location.
