Fresh Place Friday- Moving to Colorado

With the New Year comes many new possibilities. It’s a fresh start on a fresh calendar. It’s a chance to make those fresh kinds of decisions that change your life. And with the inspiration of starting new, the energy to make adjustments can be all part of the package. Sometimes the best way to get a new perspective is go for a complete change of scene.  Often the best way to change your life and meet yourself in a new way is to make your move.

At Exodus, we specialize in making moves and in helping people through these transitional times in life. Big enough to handle all the logistics but small enough to care, we never forget that when you move you are making a commitment to change. We think that this is best done with as much information as possible. So, to that end we are starting a series we call “Fresh Place Fridays,” the purpose being to educate our clients about various places to move to. For our first edition, we have decided to focus on our most favorite state. It’s probably easy to guess that it’s Colorado.

The Location

The State of Colorado contains the largest expanse of the Rocky Mountains of any other place in the US. For this reason it is uniquely known for both its elevation and its natural affinity toward outdoor activities. Offering both rugged and mild terrain, Colorado is famed as a historic epicenter in the West for the mining of elements including gold and silver. Sometimes called the “Centennial State”, the most highly populated city of Colorado is also its capital; Denver. It is the only state in the US that is entirely located above an elevation of 1000 meters.

The Scene

People who live in Colorado are referred to as Coloradans. Consistently being the home of several major cities that rank in the top 100 in the country, this state in general is known for being a healthy and happy place to live and work. Known for fresh brewed local beer and regional specialties such as fresh rainbow trout and game steaks, Colorado is also home to much by way of diverse cuisine, culture and entertainment. Because it consistently ranked in the last 5 years in the top 10 best states to live in, it continues to grow and expand.

Random Facts & Insights

According to a Forbes Magazine study in 2009 of the best places to move, Colorado ranks #4 out of the 50 US States.

Because the location is a popular one and the quality of life is consistently higher than many other places in the US, people tend to be happier and as a result make more friends when they move to Colorado.

New Colorado residents often underestimate the power of altitude on things like nosebleeds (which are frequently experienced by new transplants) and alcohol consumption (most people notice a major shift in tolerance.) Many forget altitudes many dehydrating effects to be experienced as a result of lack of oxygen but find that when they arrive, it can make a big difference.
