Exodus Moving and Storage: Spotlight on Green Action

A large part of owning a business in any community is actually taking the time to become a piece of that community. At Exodus Moving and Storage, we support a number of community organizations. Today, we’d like to put the spotlight on one of the many organizations that we are connected to called ‘Green Action’.

Green Action is a health and environmental organization that supports a “clean, healthy, and just future for all.” Working with low-income and urban communities, Green Action’s mission is to clean up the environment in these areas. Green Action is fighting something that the organization calls ‘environmental racism.’ What does this mean, exactly? Environmental racism happens when low-income individuals and families are placed in environmentally hazardous parts of town. More often than not, lower-income neighborhoods have hazardous environmental factors working against the people that live in those areas – things like air pollution from factories, locations near waste areas, and other factors that negatively impact the environment.

Green Action’s main goal is to clean up these areas, so that everyone (regardless of income level) can live in a clean and healthy environment. Not only does Green Action help to clean up these areas, but this organization also works to prevent future environmentally damaging companies and operations from setting up shop. Working to fight negative environmental development within these communities is more than half of the battle when it comes to environmental racism. Exodus Moving and Storage stands behind Green Action by donation funds, supporting various causes, and helping this organization stand against the things that can quickly turn a healthy environment into a hazardous and harmful one.

A Passing Thought

More often than not, the concept of environmental racism isn’t known or is put aside. The reality is, though, that all towns and cities have that one section of town that isn’t quite up to par with the other areas in town. Large cities, especially, tend to allow development of waste plants and other toxic factories inside of certain boundaries, and those boundaries are often placed around the lower-income parts of a town. Most people that live in cities and towns with some environmentally hazardous areas never know of the price people that reside in those areas pay just to live. Often, the price is too high and includes health risks.

Green Action is an important organization that strives to bring the basic human right of environmental equality for all to light. Through funding and community action, organizations like this one can grow. Green Action is one of the organizations that we’re proud to support as an integral part of the Fort Collins and Denver community. In addition, we are happy to add any organization that seeks to make our communities a better place to our support list. If you know of a community organization that requires some support, please let us know about it. In the meantime, take a moment to check out the other groups, centers, and organizations that we support.

Moving Here Means Living Here

If you work to make the community that you live in better overall, you’ll really become ingrained in that area – and isn’t that the point of living anywhere? In Colorado, there are so many different organizations reaching for a better world that you can easily join. While we’re sure your mind is preoccupied with the way that you will move here and finding a place to live before you arrive, we also want to turn your attention towards community organizations like Green Action that need your help and attention.
