How to Decorate for the Holidays

If you’ve already booked the Fort Collins moving company that you plan to use, and you’ve found the best long distance moving company around (Exodus, of course!), you’re probably ready to move into your new home and start the holiday season in your new place. That, of course, means decorating your home for the holidays, but we’re not talking about a large inflatable Rudolph here. We’re talking about the inside of your home, which can be so much more than silver and pale whites!

Have you ever wondered how magazines make holiday decor so inviting and festive? Part of it has to do with color, which is surprisingly something that most people don’t think about when they plan inside holiday decor. So, let’s talk about adding some color to the inside of your home this holiday season!

Getting the Color Right

Think for a moment about the colors of the holiday season, and you may think about blues, whites, reds, and greens, right? But, what about some other colors? What about different shades of red, or a splash of red against a silver background? Play with color so that you create something unique – you don’t have to go with elf green or Santa red!

Consider One Area of Color

Okay, so maybe you’re not the type to put splashes of red all over the house, and that’s okay. Another really great way to incorporate some holiday color is to think about an accent wall or other accent area. If the rest of your home is decked out in silver and white, for example, a wall that includes some deep red or green or silver may be just the thing to change it all up a bit.

If you haven’t called a long distance moving company yet, and you’re still in the process of selling your home, a nice and neat accent area that incorporates some of those holiday colors may be just the thing that people will love to see when they walk in your house during a viewing. Some people aren’t crazy about decorations, so you can really confine your holiday cheer to one area and still please buyers.

Go With Gold

How often do you see gold hues around the holiday season instead of silver ones? Sometimes, just making that much of a change can be a really good way to mix things up. You’d be surprised at how great decorations can look when gold is used against deep forest greens. Plus, small gold accents look fabulous – just make sure not to go overboard with the gold!

Look at All Areas

From your tabletops to your fireplace, holiday accents can really go anywhere. Even simple things like red berries in a tall glass vase look amazing this time of year. Also, don’t forget the scents! There’s nothing like the smell of gingerbread or a candle that smells like a Christmas tree. This time of year, there are plenty of holiday scented candles around too, so you can easily pick one up – and before you know it, your home will be sold, and you’ll be calling that long distance moving company thanks to that amazing scent!
