As April’s charity spotlight, our Colorado movers have chosen to highlight Alternatives to Violence- a group that works to empower people to lead nonviolent lives through affirmation, respect for all, community building, cooperation and trust.
This organization was founded in and developed from the actual lives of prisoners and others who have faced violence. The group builds on a spiritual base and encourages each person to take responsibility for their actions and draw on their innate power to positively transform themselves and the world around them. AVP offers workshops on personal growth and creative conflict management in order to help people find an alternative outlet for violence.
The goal of AVP is to reduce the level of violence by introducing people to ways of resolving conflict that does not require resorting to violence. In fact, AVP strives to create successful personal interactions that avoid violent confrontations. The majority of the training takes place in areas where violence is most prevalent: prisons, communities and schools.
AVP is always looking for monetary donations to support the conferences they hold and to further workshops or you can volunteer your time by finding the chapter nearest you!
